![]() In that case you should probably try the DAC in the Scarlett and see if you even need a separate DAC/pre/hp amp. Deciding between Schiit Magni/Modi stack, Topping DX3 Pro+, and maybe SMSL SU-6/SH-6 stack but open to other recommendations. The G6 sounds much worse than any of those. Fulla E is based on the ESS ES9018 D/A converter, coupled with an Alps RK09 potentiometer, high-quality filter and amp stages from Texas Instruments, and well as precision thin-film resistors and film capacitors. The Hel is about as powerful as a Magni 3, but it doesnt sound quite as good, especially compared to the 3+ using a fully discrete output stage. Magni 3 delivers 2.4V into 32ohms - the G6 does less than 2W. If you're looking for a DAW setup/recording going down the Scarlett (or alternative USB interface)road may be a better choice. The Asgard 3 delivers 5W into 16ohms and 3.5W into 32ohms. What are you going to be doing with the setup? My default assumption is music playback, but given the Scarlett and Hel being in consideration it seems audio in /ADC is an area of consideration as well. What's your current setup as a baseline? If your coming from onboard sound, the Hel or Modi will both give you much better decoding to your monitors. You can go further up the food chain (with Schiit or elsewhere) and get even better performance (but generally severely diminishing return/$). The Magni non-multibit and Hel are going to be similar sounding DAC sections. Schiit introduced its next-generation Fulla today, with dramatic upgrades in terms of capability, flexibility, and quality. Maybe you love a studio style flat sound, maybe you love bass, maybe you love a punched up V shaped tuning. It's about finding a sound signature that you enjoy (assuming this is a listening setup rather than mastering) and picking components that help you achieve that sound. I could get the schiit stack and/or the Hel 2. ![]() This may also benefit you with a more convenient volume control location, depending on the monitors and their placement.Įverything is a compromise, even buying the most expensive DAC on the market (think of all the other opportunities you'd have to give up). The Schiit Fulla 2 is an ultra-compact desktop DAC and headphone pre-amp. The obvious alternative here is to run the monitors off the preamp outputs on the Magni. Running direct from DAC to monitors with the stack will either require recabling to switch to headphones or adding in a SYS. Schiit stack vs Hel hits a similar pricepoint so component and design compromises are likely to be similar. ![]() You mention running directly from the Modi to the powered monitors, this should be largely similar to Hel as both use the same AKM DAC chip and TI op amp chip. Just replaced my Yamaha HT receiver acting as and amp with a Vidar, driving a pair of Elac B6.2s. I've been running off the line out from my Hel for the past few months. ![]()
